COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course is about Introduction and overview of manufacturing; Manufacturing materials and it’s types, Physical properties of manufacturing materials, Stress, Strain, Mechanical properties of materials applied to manufacturing processes, Manufacturing materials processing considerations, product quality and production costs;  Sheet metal forming processes ( deep drawing, stretch shearing and bending); Bulk Forming Processes (forging, rolling, extrusion and wire drawing); Basic Casting Techniques, Pattern Designing with shrinkage and machining allowances, Calculations on solidification time;  Welding processes (Fusion-Welding, Solid-State Welding, Brazing, and Soldering);  Automation Technologies for Manufacturing Systems: Automation Fundamentals, Hardware for Automation, CNC, Industrial Robotics; Integrated Manufacturing Systems : Materials Handling, Fundamentals of Production Line, Manual Assembly Line, Automated Production Line, Cellular Manufacturing, Flexible Manufacturing Systems, Computer-Integrated Manufacturing.

COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of this course are to build up an understanding of different manufacturing materials; manufacturing processes, their features and areas of applications; and manufacturing systems. It will develop the ability to compare the advantages and limitations of different manufacturing processes.
